“Many people look at a problem and say, “I wish I could help, but I’m just one person.” Stan Havlick wanted to help cancer patients. He went out and did it.

‘My first wife had acute lymphocytic leukemia,” Havlick explained. “I was motivated to do something. I don’t have a medical background, but I do have a business background. I went to Dr. Bill Robinson who lived in Eldorado Springs at that time. He was the oncologist for my wife. And he helped me decide to put on this race.’

This year’s Run for the Cure is August 15th (a Thursday) at 6 p.m. It’s held in Eldorado Springs which is between Golden and Boulder on Highway 93. This year, racers will be in the canyon at Eldorado Canyon State Park.”

Buiding on the success of the 2023 Run for the Cure, this year’s event uses the same course that routes along the South Boulder Creek into Eldorado Canyon State Park, providing scenic vistas at every turn. With little to no traffic, this four-mile out and back, out and back, course is a great improvement over years past where runners took to the entrance road leading to the Eldorado Springs Pool.

The Colorado Cancer Foundation (CCF) is pleased to promote, Happy Smackah, an untimed 5K fun-run and or walk around beautiful Lake McIntosh in Northern Longmont.

All event participants, excluding late registrations, receive a Happy Smackah event t-shirt. The event starts and finishes towards the West end of Dawson Park, close to Lakeshore Drive and Cove Court.

Now in its 11th year, Happy Smackah raises funds for a person in need, and this year the fun run is dedicated to Halle Glasser a Longmont high schooler battling cancer.

The Close To Home virtual event, even during a global pandemic, was a huge success thanks to all of you. We are thrilled to announce that we achieved and exceeded our fundraising goal with a gross amount raised of $15,460. In hopes of making a difference in the lives of cancer patients across the state of Colorado, all our proceeds have been donated to the Colorado Cancer Foundation to support the state-of-the-art cancer research at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus.

Thanks to a series of generous donations from race participants and individual donors, most notably the Cook Family, the Colorado Cancer Foundation has been able to support the University of Colorado Anschutz Campus in an unprecedented way, donating $100,000 to cancer research laboratories in 2020 alone. In a year when people are struggling the world over, and funding is running short, the CCF wishes to thank all who gave so freely, so generously of their time and money.
